Edgar Allan Poe inspired Mugs
Are we descending into madness yet? Do your past actions hang heavy on your soul?
Allow me to offer you drinking vessels with something gothic from Poe for that; an author who, for me, should be like a stick of rock. If you peeled off his skin, he'd have had the word "Gothic" written down the centre of his body.
I think Poe had the enviable ability to describe madness and maudlinity with uncanny accuracy; a writer who along with Shelley and Stoker is perhaps one of the "inventors" of horror writing. And definately a master of the Gothic.
I have chosen two of Poe's poems: The Raven and The Tell Tale Heart.
Perhaps the best known of his poems, The Raven, tells of grief, mourning, lost love, and of questions of the afterlife.
From loss and love to murder... The Tell Tale Heart Poe lets us hear the murderers descent to madness, as the crimes of the narrator hang off his souls and consume his sanity...
I have chosen part-passages from both poems for the mugs and matching coasters:
From The Raven, "Leave my loneliness unbroken!—quit the bust above my door! Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!" Quoth the Raven "Nevermore."
The Raven Quote mug has 2 designs: one with the narrators part on 1 side of the mug, and the Ravens on the reverse. The other is a double sided print, which I designed to go with the Raven "Nevermore" coaster.
From The Tell Tale Heart, "I talked more fluently, and with a heightened voice. Yet the sound increased", with the matching coaster, bearing the (edited) line, "Villains! dissemble no more! I admit the deed! --tear up the planks! here, here! --It is the beating of his hideous heart!"
I love Poe... his writing is diverse, and as a writer his impact is far-reaching... from horror to modern detectives, Poe's fingerprints can be found throughout Western writing. Like Lovecraft, I have spent along time looking for the right images for his works, wanting to produce something but struggling to find the inspirations. I hope I have found something as gothic as Poe's writing...

The mug is a high-quality, 11oz (300ml), bright-white finish. They are (approx) 9.5cm tall and 8cm diameter. Each is hand-printed in Yorkshire.
They are microwave & Dishwasher safe, though I recommend maximise the life-span of the mugs, please wash in the top tray of your dishwasher (from personal experience, I have over 300 washes on mugs I have made, with no colour fade or loss of gloss yet). As with all things, hand washing will achieve the greatest longevity.
The mugs are shipped in a plain cardboard smash-proof recyclable box.
